Capital Projects: Louis le Prince

Louis le Prince, LeedsLouis le Prince, Leeds

Green-fingered residents living at Louis le Prince, a sheltered housing scheme in Leeds, received the garden they always wanted through the Green Spaces project.

With an investment of almost £68,000 from the BIG Lottery Fund, their external garden has been completely transformed to provide an outdoor space that residents can truly enjoy.

The garden includes a sensory garden with accessible pathways to ensure everyone can enjoy the community garden. The focal point is an external "sail-like" roof which provides a sheltered seating area for people to meet and watch wildlife.

The project has created a strong sense of community at the scheme. Its residents have worked together to design the type of garden that will enhance their quality of life, with many now taking ownership of it's upkeep.

The garden was officially opened by award winning Leeds born writer and actress Kay Mellor OBE, at a traditional English afternoon tea party.

The project continues to provide a range of community events including horticultural training, food growing, cookery classes, and photography to ensure residents continually get the most from their new garden.
