Places for People
provides a range of learning, work experience and apprenticeship opportunities for our customers.

Daniel was recently out of work when he successfully applied for a role as an apprentice Horticultural Assistant within our Nottingham Site Services Team. The position was supported through a partnership with Nurture Landscapes Ltd, a leading horticulturalist company.

Whilst maintaining the our green spaces in the Nottingham area, Daniel has carried out a wide range of tasks including:

  • ground preparation
  • shrub, bulb and flower planting
  • turf laying
  • timber fence repair and maintenance.

Daniel has also learnt a range of horticultural maintenance skills and how to use a number of tools.

Daniel has been supporting local projects to create community activities, including leading on a community planting project for children and their parents.  As a result of Daniel's project there's been a noticeably lower level of litter, graffiti and plant damage in the area.

Daniel is benefitting from training opportunities including an NVQ level 2 in Work-based Horticulture and PA1/ PA6 Safe Use and Spraying of Pesticides Qualification.

As a result of his personal commitment, and experience gained through training, Daniel secured a permanent, full-time role as a Site Services Officer.

Partnership with others

Working in partnership with Greenability in Nottingham and the Camden Garden Centre in London we've also provided employment for 3 horticultural apprentices.

The apprentices have delivered practical green space improvement events as part of their training, including working with customers.
